What Five Years of Protecting Food, People, and Brands Has Taught Us

Oct 27

A message from Ray Haddad, Managing Director & Lead Trainer, Food Surety Limited

When I started Food Surety five years ago, I wanted to help professionals feel confident about doing what’s right... Today, we’ve trained over thousands of professionals and supported some of the biggest food brands across New Zealand.

Food Surety began with a simple yet powerful belief, that food professionals are the unsung heroes protecting lives every single day. They are the people who make sure the food reaching people is safe, compliant, and handled with care.

As food supply chains and compliance requirements have grown increasingly complex, our purpose has remained steady: to help food professionals do what’s right with confidence, protecting consumers and brands.

Today, we reflect with pride, and gratitude, on this journey.

Our Journey So Far

From a small training initiative in New Zealand, Food Surety has grown into a trusted partner for organisations across the country and beyond. We’ve now trained 3,500+ professionals from 15+ countries, equipping them with the skills and confidence to lead food safety in their workplaces.

We’ve worked alongside leading organisations such as MPI, Coca-Cola, Zespri, Griffins, VISY, Villa Maria, Inghams, Tegel, OJI Fibre Solutions and numerous local councils, helping teams build capability, confidence, and culture.

Along the way, we’ve expanded our reach internationally, delivering specialised food safety and compliance training in diverse markets and continuing to evolve our e-learning solutions to make learning practical, flexible, and impactful.

5 Lessons in 5 Years

After five years of continuous growth and learning, a few key lessons stand out:

1. Clarity builds confidence.
When people understand the 'why' behind compliance, they act with purpose and consistency.

2. Culture drives compliance.
Real food safety leadership starts with people, their habits, values, and shared responsibility.

3. Technology empowers learning.
Our shift toward e-learning and digital tools has made quality training accessible anytime, anywhere.

4. Collaboration strengthens trust.
Partnerships, with industry, regulators, and peers, amplify impact across food industry sectors.

5. Purpose sustains progress.
Our mission to protect food, people, and trust keeps us moving forward, even through challenges.

Looking Ahead

The next chapter for Food Surety is even more exciting, it is about scale and innovation, expanding our reach in New Zealand and beyond while keeping our human-centred approach.

We’ll continue to launch new courses and programs, strengthen national and international collaborations, and integrate new digital tools including AI-powered learning support.

We have just launched the Food Safety Culture Essentials e-learning course and are preparing to release Food Surety Lead Program, an integrated training program designed to help supervisors and team leaders connect the dots between food safety, culture, authenticity, compliance and business performance.

We’re continuing to grow internationally and enhance our learning systems, ensuring every professional we train walks away equipped, inspired, and confident to make a difference.

A Message of Gratitude

This milestone belongs to everyone who has trusted Food Surety over the past five years, our trainees, clients, team members, partners, and collaborators. Your belief in our purpose has shaped every step of our journey.
